Why is the world press making
such a big, big deal over the Sharon stroke? He was an overweight military
figure who was responsible for untold slaughter in the refugee camps; he
strode atop a place where he was not wanted to incite the infatadah; and he
encouraged the building of settlements so as to destabilize the region and
to foul up what little chance there was for economic viability for an
independent Palestinian state which he also fought until recently. Israel
is a country of about 8 million people which makes it a fraction of the size
of Brazil or Venezuela or even Albania. Do you think the world press would
pour out stories as to how the new Kadima party is going to do and how the
electorate will react if a politician in Brazil, or Venezuela or Albania
were to take sick? I do not think so. I think it is a little of the Jewish
predominance in the media, a little of the fact that the world sees Israel
as ground-center of all the troubles and terrorists out to get rid of it;
and a little of the Christian fundamentalists who love Sharon because they
want to take over when the Moslems are defeated. I believe any worship of a
politician is silly because they all have agendas which are rarely
unselfish. I will give you Nelson Mandella as one we can laud, and maybe
Marvin Braude but you can have the rest of the leaders (present or past) and
look at what they've caused and then conclude that the so-called best of
them did the least. Abraham Lincoln was vastly over-rated and caused the
death of millions ; if the separatists like the Kurds, the Chechnians, the
Basques, the Quebecians, the Shiias etc. want their own tribal governance
then let them have it and spare us from all the leaders who shed blood to
preserve an artificial union. I think I must be an anarchist. We deserve
our own country too. I choose Catalina Island. MH
