Mason Lee's First Tea

So, Mason must've mentioned something to my mother, prior to his birthday, about the likely continuation of teatime. I think it was something to the effect of he couldn't have tea time at his house because he didn't have a good tea tray.

So, on his birthday, for his present, Barb presented him with a tray and on it was a jar of marmite, box of tea bags and a lovely new tea pot. I thought the whole thing might be lost on Mason because he says stuff in passing all the time and often never revisits the original statement. He looked mildly interested at the time of receiving his present but hadn't mentioned it again since getting it last week. However- tonight after dinner, sure enough, he asked if he could have tea and 'make it just like Mimi.' So, despite me being a bit choked up, I showed him how we first boil water, pour it over enough tea bags in the pot, let it brew... then, while that was cooling he poured some milk in the bottom of real china teacups (granted, from a garage sale a million years ago) for himself, me and Spence. Then he carefully poured the tea into each of our cups (he pressed the back of his pinkie against the hot pot and cried for a second- live and learn.) I set out some cookies and the three of us had a nice teatime together. He ended up drinking his through a straw and Spencer delighted in saying 'cheers' and clinking my cup in between every sip but it felt like Mimi was here with us, and happy, nonetheless.
